City Roots is located right off the heart of downtown. In a nutshell, they are an urban farm that produces sustainable organic food by way of a holistic farming approach. Now that's a mouth full! :-)

Cute Little Microgreens. |
Now, I have to admit that I haven't tried all that City Roots has to offer, because I can't get beyond their microgreens. Yes, microgreens and they are nothing but pure awesomeness. Did I say that already? :-) And they have more nutritional benefits in this stage of growth.
Wait! I know what you're thinking. I was a little skeptical too. But coming from a girl that had to force herself to eat the organic spring mix because I knew it was good for me (even though it doesn't taste that way) I found myself super excited to try something just as green, organic, AND grown closer to where I live. And it tastes better! Triple win!

Random March Snow Morning. 03.12.2017 |
Initially, I visited my local Whole Foods on a snow day (yes, in March) last week to pick up a package to try. I was told they didn't offer larger size containers of the microgreens like they do at the Saturday Market or at the City Roots location, but patience has never been one of my stronger points. Needless to say, I left Whole Foods without my microgreens and decided to just take a trip out to the City Roots location later in the work week.
My First Salad w. Microgreens |
I'm so glad I did! Upon entering the building, I immediately noticed all the foods looked super green, clean, yummy and colorful.
I now know that it is true that when food is shipped from another part of the country, it looses some of its vibrancy. Since I could not decide on a microgreen mix, I just went with the sweet mix at the recommendation of the nice lady that helped me with my order.
I wanted to fix some up for dinner, but decided to wait until work the next day. A bit of a risk, but I figured I would make it how I would usually prepare my salads. I was so surprised! It was amazing! I was hooked.
I've spent a ton of money (not complaining) on organic foods that were grown on the other side of the country. When all along, there was a gem right underneath my nose. If you haven't, head over to City Roots and check out the microgreens. They are worth the trip and downtown traffic!
XOXO
